Back in September, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Jen and Robbie’s wedding. The ceremony was at The Immaculate Conception, Maryhill and then on to The Engine Works in Glasgow. This was a truly momentous occasion for all involved and I’m so grateful I was allowed to be a part of it!
JEN & ROBBIE’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CEREMONY
We started off the day getting ready at the bride’s mum’s house. It was an absolutely gorgeous start to a beautiful day. The sun was out and everyone was in the garden enjoying the perfect weather. The champagne was flowing. The moment Jen’s dress was brought down the staircase a shaft of sunlight shone through the window. Everyone knew the day was really about to kick off. When the dress went on, the emotions ran high. The flower girl was the first to crack who then sparked tears from Jen.
Soon, it was time to get down to The Immaculate Conception. What a fitting title for such an amazing ceremony space. Father Jim Lawlor is the resident priest of the Catholic Parish. He conducted a BRILLIANT service, even going as far as to take a selfie with the bride and groom at the alter after the final I do’s!
THE RECEPTION AT THE ENGINE WORKS
After the ceremony, Jen and Robbie took a stroll down by the canal with their dog, Bridget. She behaved so well on her lead and I was able to get some great shots of the three of them.
We made our way down the steps towards The Engine Works where all of the guests were waiting and already having a good time.
Jen and Robbie took a rather unconventional approach to dinner. Instead of traditional catering, they hired The Codfather—a chip van based out of Glasgow. They also had a mobile pizza oven. Both options went down very well with the guests.
This was my first wedding reception shot at The Engine Works. It’s a new venue in Glasgow—very atmospheric and post-industrial. It boasts remarkable exposed brickwork and the old crane from the steam engine yard still hangs over the place.
There were plenty of great speeches as the night went on and even a song performed by Robbie’s brother, Lee which he had written and composed himself just for the occasion.
This was an incredible wedding to capture and I’d like to thank Jen and Robbie for hiring me to be their wedding photographer. I love when clients give me the freedom to use my documentary-style approach to wedding photography—it makes for such great photos!
