Back in May, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Laura and Frank’s wedding. They had chosen the Seamill Hydro Hotel & Resort in Ayrshire.  This wedding was an incredibly beautiful occasion with magnificent scenery. I’m so glad I was there to capture the whole day!

LAURA & FRANK’S SEAMILL HYDRO HOTEL WEDDING

First off, the Seamill Hydro Hotel & Resort is a gorgeous location right on the beach.  You get fantastic views right across the water to the Isle of Arran and a dramatic outline of Goat Fell.

I love to photograph the preparations in the Bridal Suite.  It couldn’t have been a better place for the bridesmaids to get ready with loads of space and a huge mirror that was great for photography.  It practically doubled the space to shoot in!

When I first met with Laura and Frank, it was clear that they completely understood what it meant to have a documentary style wedding photographer shoot their wedding.

Nothing is staged, No awkward poses

When I’m capturing a wedding, I keep everything as authentic and candid as possible.  Nothing is staged. No awkward poses. The day just flows naturally. Frank and Laura were absolutely on board with this approach and they were happy to just leave me to get on with photographing the day as it unfolded.  I was delighted that I was able to capture some very special moments in a natural way without having to interfere with the proceedings of the day.

We had perfect weather, too!  The sun was shining and there were blue skies all around—which was very lucky because it’s not always like that in the West Coast of Scotland!  Laura and Frank must have had some kind of sixth sense about this because they went as far as to provide sunglasses to all of the guests after the service.

Speaking of guests, one of my favourite things about taking a documentary-style approach to wedding photography is capturing guest reactions in the moment.  It also helps me to blend in with the guests and photograph special moments from the guests’ point of view.

Walk along the beach at Sunset

All in all, the day went off without a hitch.  I loved the sunset walk we took along the beach after Frank and Laura’s first dance.  And the champagne fountain was quite impressive—almost as impressive as Frank’s ability to down his glass in one gulp!  We were able to work in perfect harmony throughout the entire day and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Cheers to both Frank and Laura.  Thank you for bringing me into your lives for your special day.  May your love last a lifetime and more!
