2015 – where did the time go? I can’t believe we’re already into the second week of 2016! So I thought I’d have a look back at my best wedding photography of 2015.
The year started in January with a trip to London to photograph a beautiful wedding at St Paul’s Cathedral and ended in wonderfully festive style amongst Christmas trees and candles at Cameron House on the banks of Loch Lomond – no snow I’m afraid and plenty of rain but it dampened none of the atmosphere!
I have loved going back over all my wedding work of the past year – it has been brilliant to relive all the happy times I’ve witnessed. But the most important conclusion has been to remind me that, despite all the hours spent in front of the computer screen, I’ve got the best job in the world! Every wedding I attended this year was packed full of emotion and fun and being entrusted with capturing all those magic moments and emotions for a couple is a huge responsibility but at the same time, immensely rewarding.
Another consequence of going back through all the photos is the opportunity to think about how I can improve and push myself to tell the story better. Could I find more interesting angles, more unexpected moments, anticipate better, be less obtrusive??? It certainly confirms my firm belief that documentary wedding photography is the way forward for me – real, candid, authentic moments with nothing contrived or posed.
The year has been a busy one with over 30 weddings photographed and my huge thanks go to all the couples I’ve worked with. Over half of these weddings were in venues that I had not worked at before. So to all of you couples worrying unnecessarily about whether to choose a photographer who has worked in a particular venue before…. don’t, it really makes no difference to a photographer like me, trying to avoid all the contrived and formulaic “photo opportunities”.
Here’s a video slideshow with my main selection of images and below that is a slimmed down version of individual pics. Sit back, turn up the volume and enjoy….. and please let me know what you think in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
Have a great 2016 everyone!
