Looking back to a fabulous wedding from a couple of years ago, I was very excited to be given the chance to capture Laura and Stuart’s beautiful lochside wedding at Altskeith Country House in Aberfoyle. I love remembering back to this wedding, as it was such a wonderful occasion with truly amazing people.

LAURA & STUART’S ALTSKEITH COUNTRY HOUSE WEDDING

Kind words from the couple…

Stuart: “Thank you Ashley. I just spotted this post. What a fantastic video, it had Laura in tears watching it. We were so lucky to have such a fantastic photographer for our big day. Hope you are well.”

Laura: “Yup. I was VERY excited! You were absolutely brilliant, Ashley. You captured the complete joy of the day and all the special people we shared it with! 3 years on, still as happy as we were then.”

Altskeith Country House has always been one of my favourite locations nestling by the loch and surrounded by incredible hills and mountains. I had my own wedding less than a mile from Altskeith and jump at any excuse to go back there.

Beautiful Wedding Venue on the Shore of Loch Ard

The road up to the glen towards Altskeith hugs one of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland — Loch Ard. Loch Ard is in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park — it’s an absolutely gorgeous area. As I drove in that autumn morning, I knew I was in for a treat.

October is one of the most beautiful times of the year. The weather on the day of Laura and Stuart’s wedding set everything off perfectly with blue skies and warm sunshine. Golden woodlands reflected in mirror-flat water.

I realized pretty soon after entering the room where the girls were getting ready that the day was going to be all about fun and everyone having a great time. There were no nerves on show during the bridal prep, just a lot of laughs and excitement.

When it was finally time to get the ceremony underway, I headed down to the function room of the Altskeith where Stuart was waiting. Ben Lomand dominated the skyline behind him through the expanse glass windows and made for a perfect backdrop for these two to be wed. Mary Wallace of the Humanist Society Scotland did a wonderful job as celebrant.

Little Yellow Boathouse

After the ceremony, I stole these two away for some amazing shots on the edge of the loch. Altskeith has a romantic little yellow boathouse right on the loch, and I knew we had to take some photos there.

After that, it was time for dinner and the reception, which was an absolute blast! After dinner and speeches, it was time for everyone to get busy on the dance floor. So much high energy! But I knew I needed to steal Laura and Stuart away one last time for some night time shots.

Laura and Stuart, thank you so much for allowing me to be your wedding photographer for your Altskeith Country House wedding. I still look back on it with fond memories and I hope you both are doing well. Cheers.
