A dream venue for lovers of photography
A dream venue for any Byre at Inchyra wedding photographer. Nestled in 150 acres of glorious Perthshire countryside, Inchyra has it all. A rustic yet stylish vibe in the beautifully restored barn; a stunning walled garden with lily pond, converted stable yard; and sweeping velvety lawns which contrast with meadow pathways and rolling fields. I’ve been shooting weddings at Inchyra since 2015. So far I have notched up seven memorable weddings with a few more bookings in the diary. All seven are among the most fun and joyful I’ve had the pleasure of documenting.
Flexible and adaptable, Byre at Inchyra
Inchrya is an incredibly versatile venue with some fantastic original features. The old stone water troughs and the sunken cattle court have been cleverly re-purposed into a central dance floor. In the weddings I’ve covered, these details really help add texture and context to the pictures, building up a true visual account of what it was like to be there on the day. The Byre itself doesn’t need much beyond some wildflowers and greenery to come alive. It’s already brimming with character, but crucially for photography, it’s equally striking at night. The lighting is both atmospheric and effective; so those all-important first dance shots work beautifully.
Wedding photographer, telling the story

You’ll also get an idea of my documentary photographic style. As a former press photographer for The Times, my approach is all about telling a story, from the start of the day to its close, with a natural, authentic focus that seizes impromptu joyous or funny moments, as well as capturing intimate scenes without any posing or choreography.
Observing unobtrusively
In the next set of pictures below you’ll find lots of examples of the way I work. It’s not just the obvious I have in my sight. I love to zoom in on a little detail I’ve spotted; noticing someone’s expression, perhaps; or timing a shot to preserve a unique moment in an unusual way. Sometimes it’s the look on Dad’s face as he sees his daughter as a bride for the first time which makes the best and most meaningful photo, rather than simply the ‘top of the staircase’ posed shot.
My wedding photography has a photojournalistic style. Therefore, I love to pick up on the less conventional aspects as I weave together the story of your day. There is nothing nicer than the happy couple’s reaction when they see little scenes they may not have noticed. It’s one of the best parts of seeing your wedding album for the first time. That’s why in my work, you’ll find groomsmen roaring with laughter, caught as the punchline’s delivered; bridesmaids deep in concentration as fiddly buttons are fastened; solemn pugs and playful spaniels; giggling children sneaking a glug of champagne when no-one (except me) is looking.
Close up and aerial
As a reportage wedding photographer I like to use all the techniques and technology to capitalise on the venue and location. From drone photography (a brilliant way to show the walled garden at Inchyra from above, for example) to identifying natural backdrops which enhance or contrast with the subject. Perhaps the colour of a faded wall tones in exactly with sweetpeas in the bride’s bouquet. Or a rough exposed stone doorway might perfectly offset a delicate white lace gown.
