Sophie & Tom tie the knot in Aberdeenshire
It’s not an area of the country that I am too familiar with so I was delighted to be asked by Sophie and Tom to photograph their Aswanley wedding.
As a documentary wedding photographer it’s great to travel to new places and new venues. I was thrilled to cast a fresh eye over Aswanley when I popped in there on the morning of the wedding to have a look around. Also I felt grateful to Sophie and Tom for booking me to travel up from Stirling having never worked at Aswanley before.
One question I am often asked by couples is “Have you worked at our venue before?” Of course, it’s a perfectly natural thing to want. However, I work at certain venues on a regular basis and I find that pictures that work brilliantly for one wedding won’t necessarily work in the same way for a different couple on a different day. There’s a whole host of reasons for this but it’s no good trying to repeat the same pictures from one wedding to another. When you choose your photographer choose them because you are drawn to the pictures they take rather than their familiarity with a venue.
We all have a different style and someone who has worked in a venue many times before may not be the best choice for you as the conditions on your day will almost certainly not match the other pictures you’ve seen. A fresh eye on a new venue could be just what’s needed and if you choose a good documentary wedding photographer they’re going to be trained to react to real moments and get the very best from the light, the surroundings and the people that form the essence of your day.
And so it proved for Sophie and Tom and I had many fabulous photo opportunities for the candid photography as well as some gorgeous bridal portraits.
Here’s a film of some of my favourite images set to music. See what you think of their happy day….
I hope you enjoyed that little selection – I certainly thoroughly enjoyed my day with Sophie and Tom, and I think it shows!
“We could not be happier with the photos and overall experience we received from Ashley. From the coffee and chat in Gartmore to getting our album and digital photos, Ashley was fantastic. We searched the length and breadth of Scotland to find the perfect photographer and are so glad we discovered Ashley. On the day itself Ashley was almost invisible… Yet managed to capture some amazing photos, a rare skill. He took on board everything we had requested and managed to get all the photos we wanted and more. We really couldn’t recommend Ashley enough, no matter where in the country you are. You will definately not regret the choice and will struggle to find a more talented and caring photographer. Thanks again Ashley. Tom and Sophie.”
