The Cornhill Castle Wedding of Susan & Malcolm

It was a gorgeous day on the 24th of August last year for the Cornhill Castle wedding of Susan and Malcolm. Apparently, each wedding I shoot at this fabulous Lanarkshire wedding venue gets better and better. Susan and Malcolm’s August wedding was a family affair. Everyone from all sides had put so much into the day. The couple must have felt so loved! It was wonderful to be their wedding photographer to witness and record all the support and commitment from so many people.

SUSAN & MALCOLM’S AUGUST WEDDING

Susan prepared for the wedding day at her parent’s home. The beautiful August light streamed in through the windows as all prepared for the wedding day excitement. The ladies wore colourful robes while hair and makeup finished. Susan’s little flower girl was so precious as she got into her gown. She carefully applied her lipstick and spun around in her dress. I was so pleased to capture and preserve these moments for Susan! Little ones grow so quickly, but the lasting memories of her antics on the wedding day will be preserved in these photos.

So much work had gone into the beautiful garden at Susan’s parents’ house — the flowering borders trimmed to perfection for the wedding day. Susan’s father had even built a small foot bridge to go over the flower beds so Susan could get onto the lawn for some photos. The bride, bridesmaids and flower girl all carefully crossed the bridge for portraits on the sunny lawn surrounded by the colourful blooms.

AN ELEGANT CHURCH CEREMONY

People came from all over the world to celebrate the wedding with Susan and Malcolm. It was so special that their relatives from Canada were able to make the trip. Upon the arrival at Biggar Kirk, the bridal party was greeted by local well-wishers. Susan’s smile was so joyful from the moment she pulled up to the church. She glowed as she got out of the car. The moments before she made her grand entrance, the church fell silent and then there was such a buzz when she appeared. She was truly a stunning bride.

All of a sudden, during the wedding ceremony, Susan did a little air-punch after the rings were placed on her and Malcolm’s fingers. In truth, it wasn’t a showy moment for the benefit of the congregation, rather a lovely expression of celebration for her and Malcolm. An authentic little moment captured for their memories. I hope when they look back at this wedding photo, all the feelings of joy and happiness they were both so obviously feeling at that moment will come flooding back.

After they were pronounced husband and wife and the register was signed, they left the church in a blizzard of colourful confetti.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AT CORNHILL CASTLE

We stopped for some pictures on the way back to Cornhill Castle with the heathery slopes of Tinto creating a backdrop of purple haze for of a perfect Scottish summer. Cornhill Castle in Biggar is nestled into the Scottish countryside and is a stunning backdrop for weddings. In the years I have spent photographing weddings, Cornhill Castle weddings never fail to impress. With architecture dating back to 1851, the grand castle offers a fabulous setting for weddings. But Susan and Malcolm built on this and personalized the wedding venue in so many ways. Susan’s father made a glorious flower arch to put at the door of Cornhill Castle. It was such a beautiful addition to the day.

Origami Cranes

Inside the castle, a theme that kept popping up everywhere was the origami cranes. The bride and groom had asked people to make paper cranes for the wedding. The cranes formed a big part of the decorations. Both an exquisite crane curtain behind the top table and flocks hanging from the garden pavilion. As well as those, a sweet crane couple was nesting romantically on top of the cake. Bright, delicate and full of symbolism, cranes mate for life and are a symbol of patience, good luck and commitment. Of course, all good qualities of a marriage! The cranes made for a beautiful and unique backdrop for their wedding day.
