Sophie and Tom’s Aswanley Wedding
I was delighted to be asked by Sophie and Tom to photograph their Aswanley wedding. It’s an area of the country that I’m not too familiar with.
As a documentary wedding photographer it’s great to travel to new places and new venues. I was thrilled to cast a fresh eye over Aswanley. I popped in there on the morning of the wedding to have a look around. Also I felt grateful to Sophie and Tom for their confidence in me. They booked me for my photography and to travel up from Stirling having never worked at Aswanley before.
My first wedding at Aswanley
One question I am often asked by couples is “Have you worked at our venue before?”. Of course, it’s a perfectly natural thing to want. However, I work at some venues on a regularly and the same pictures won’t necessarily work well at every wedding. I find that pictures that work brilliantly for one wedding won’t necessarily work in the same way. It’s a different couple on a different day. There’s many reasons for this but it’s no good trying to repeat the same pictures from one wedding to another. When you choose your photographer choose them because you are drawn to the pictures they take. Don’t base your choice on their familiarity with a venue.
We all have different styles. Someone who has worked in a venue many times may not be the best choice for you. The conditions on your day will almost certainly not match the other pictures you’ve seen. A fresh eye on a new venue could be just what’s needed. If you choose a good documentary wedding photographer they’re going to be trained to react to real moments. They will get the very best from the light, the surroundings and the people that form the essence of your day.
A fresh eye on a new venue
And so it proved for Sophie and Tom and I had many fabulous photo opportunities for the candid photography as well as some gorgeous bridal portraits.
Here’s a film of some of my favourite images set to music. See what you think of their happy day….
I hope you enjoyed that little selection – I certainly thoroughly enjoyed my day with Sophie and Tom, and I think it shows!
Kind words from Sophie and Tom
“We could not be happier with the photos and overall experience we received from Ashley. From the coffee and chat in Gartmore to getting our album and digital photos, Ashley was fantastic. We searched the length and breadth of Scotland to find the perfect photographer and are so glad we discovered Ashley. On the day itself Ashley was almost invisible… Yet managed to capture some amazing photos, a rare skill. He took on board everything we had requested and managed to get all the photos we wanted and more. We really couldn’t recommend Ashley enough, no matter where in the country you are. You will definately not regret the choice and will struggle to find a more talented and caring photographer. Thanks again Ashley. Tom and Sophie.”
